Choosing the right backing plate is just as important as choosing the right pad or polish to get a perfect finish from polishing. Backing plates come in different density as well as sizes. the more rigid the backing plate, the more cut you get. The softer the backing plate, the better finishing you get. Even with the same density of a backing plate used but of different size, the cutting will also be affected. Generally speaking, a pad when affixed with a smaller backing plate would have lesser cut than a pad affixed with a larger backing plate.
