With the on-going pandemic of the outspread of covid19 (at the time of writing this blog), personal hygiene and social distancing is adopted globally to prevent further spread of the highly-contagious disease.<\/p>\n

While many are told to stay home to flatten the curve, our daily lives must still carry on, and that includes driving out to purchase groceries, or commuting to work as an essential worker or frontliner. That means disinfection has to be practiced on our car interior as often as we do on our hands.<\/p>\n

It is reported that the car steering wheel contains 4 times more bacteria than a toilet bowl, and perhaps it might be the easiest place to get infested with bacteria and viruses.<\/p><\/div>\n

Our car interiors are made of various surfaces, both porous and non-porous, and it is important to understand that the right method of disinfection is needed to ensure that we can reduce the chances of viruses and bacteria infecting us.<\/p>\n

1) Cleaning does not necessarily kill viruses and bacteria<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Cleaning with interior cleaners might not kill viruses and bacteria. Cleaning is an act of \u201cbreaking and lifting\u201d dirt and grime. It does not mean the formulation has the capability to dissolve the protein and lipid of bacteria and viruses\u2019 membranes. Cleaning doesn\u2019t equate to eliminating bacteria and viruses.<\/p>\n

2) Alcohol-based sanitiser may not be the safe way on delicate materials<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The drying nature of alcohol may overtime expedite the damage on delicate surfaces such as vinyl and leathers.<\/p>\n

It is also important that a minimum surface dwell-time of 30 seconds to 1 min is required to penetrate the outer lipids of bacteria and viruses in order to destabilise it. Alcohol is known to evaporate quickly, which means insufficient dwelling time may lead to ineffective sanitisation.<\/p>\n

Sanitisation with alcohol requires a minimum dwell time of 30 sec to 1 min, and depends on adequate % of alcohol for it to be effective.<\/p><\/div>\n

3) Not all fogging solution kills bacteria<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Nano mist, nano fogging, whichever name it goes by – does not necessarily mean it has the formulation to kill bacteria or viruses. The smoke or fog is perpetuated by heating glycerine to high-heat, and glycerine is meant as a dispersing agent, not as a germicide.<\/p>\n

Without antibacterial ingredients,<\/strong> the fogging method is only as good as a vape juice – all flavor and scent.<\/p>\n

So begs the question, what is an effective way to actually sanitise your car interior?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The best method we recommend is to actually first thoroughly clean your car, removing all dirt and grime before sanitising with anti-bactericidal properties.<\/p>\n

This is because surfaces that are dirty and full of grimes are actually the perfect enviroment for bacteria and viruses to dwell and proliferate. Cleaner surfaces mean less likelihood for foreign organisms to thrive in.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, sanitise frequently touched areas such as steering wheel, gear knob and e-brake, door handles, arm rest and car keys to lower the counts of bacteria and viruses to prevent chances of infection.<\/p>\n

Sanitising your hands prior to entering your car is also a good practice to have especially during this corona pandemic.<\/p><\/div>\n
